    Area Routine

Welcome to SACU. (Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit)

SACU receives surgical patients from the age of 16 upwards. Patients are admitted via different pathways. They may be accepted from the Emergency Department, via their GP, or referred by a clinician post-operatively following recent surgery. There are also wound dressing clinic patients too. Please be aware that these patients have a booked appointment time.

We strive to make our waiting area as calm and effective as possible, but there can be times when the unit becomes very busy. Staff always endeavour to update the patients on time.

We discourage items of high value from being brought into the hospital and encourage patients/relatives to only bring what is needed. For security reasons, if patients are required to be admitted, staff will complete a property checklist on admission.

    The Friends and Family Test

We are part of a nationwide initiative known as the 'Friends and Family Test' which gives us - and other NHS organisations across the country - an even greater insight into the experience our patients have of our services, and what they think of us.

We offer all our patients the opportunity to answer one simple question: "Thinking about the service we provide, overall how was your experience of our service?"

You are asked to respond from a number of options from "Very good" to "Very poor". You will also have the opportunity to tell us the main reason for the answer you give, as well as tell us what we could do to improve.
