Down's Syndrome
Down's syndrome is a randomly occurring condition caused by an extra chromosome. It is not caused by anything a person does before or during pregnancy. People with Down's syndrome will have a learning disability, affecting each person differently. Unfortunately, people with Down's syndrome may be vulnerable to ablest prejudice. Ableism is just one element of Down's syndrome that might significantly impact well-being. The Language Creates Reality project is an excellent resource for understanding how the language we use can affect people with Down's syndrome. Further resources in this section include The Down's Syndrome Association, MenCap, and a South East England charity called Downsyndromeok. These resources will have everything you need to learn about life with Down's syndrome.
