Maternity assessment unit
We have maternity assessment units at both Epsom and St Helier hospitals. The reasons for attendance are varied, but the majority of women will attend the unit for a small range of reasons/conditions, primarily for blood pressure monitoring, spontaneous rupture of membranes, reduced foetal movements, or itching. The units are run by a midwife and a maternity assistant and most patients are usually seen in the unit as a one-off for a particular reason. However, a small number of women will attend the unit on a regular and ongoing basis. If necessary, we will ensure appropriate referral of patients into the maternity assessment unit and also onto other areas of the maternity unit.
St Helier
Our maternity assessment unit (MAU) at St Helier provides a "walk-in" service for women who are at least 20 weeks pregnant and have either been referred by a health professional or have a concern themselves regarding their pregnancy. The unit is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm and accepts patients until 4pm every day.
