Local choirs raise their voices for Epsom Hospital this Christmas
Epsom Medical Equipment Fund has enlisted support from more than 10 local choirs to help spread some festive cheer and raise money towards the purchase of a £7,500 portable breathing aid for young patients at Epsom Hospital.
Visitors to the Ashley Shopping Centre have been greeted by a host of angelic voices this festive season, including choirs from a number of local schools, as well as the Epsom Choral Society and the Fund’s own choir, which performed at Sainsbury’s in Kiln Lane. As well as delighting crowds with a festive feast of music, the performers have helped raise more than £3,175 towards the purchase of a vapotherm machine, which will help babies, children and young adults breathe more easily when they are transferred from A&E to a ward for continuing treatment.
Fund Co-ordinator Bess Harding MBE said: “It’s been such a thrill to see so many people come together and get behind our latest cause, especially at such a special time of the year. Shoppers enjoyed a real treat thanks to fantastic performances from the choirs. Whether it be traditional renditions of well-known carols, or a new take on Christmas classics, there has been something for everyone. Crowds of people stopped to take in the wonderful singing with proud parents and grandparents coming along to show their support as well.
“And, to top it all off, we have raised an amazing amount of money that will go towards our latest purchase for Epsom Hospital. I’d like to say thank you to all of the choirs for their support; to the small band of collectors (without whose help the fundraising wouldn’t have been possible), and our hosts at the Ashley Shopping Centre and Sainsbury’s in Kiln Lane. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who gave so generously – the money you have donated will make a big difference.”
The choirs involved in the fundraising are: St Joseph's Junior School, Natural Voices, Danetree Junior School, Stamford Green Junior School, West Ewell Infant School, The Downsmen, Wallace Fields Junior School, Epsom College, St Clements Junior School, Shawley Community School, St Joseph's Church Choir, Riverview Road CofE Primary School, and Epsom Choral Society.
