The requirement to wear a mask in all NHS areas has been removed
In recent months, thanks to widespread vaccination and immunity, we have seen a significant fall in the numbers of patients seriously ill with Covid.
As part of the national policy of living with Covid, and in line with recent NHS guidelines, the requirement to wear a mask in all NHS areas has been removed.
Instead, mask requirements for staff and visitors are limited to certain high-risk areas, including Covid wards, haematology, cancer and renal wards, and A&E. This will be based on an assessment of risk by the senior doctors and nurses in each area.
Visitors will be instructed whether a mask is needed on entry to a particular ward or clinic.
Staff and visitors may continue to wear masks if they have a personal preference to do so.
