The Easter bunny hops to it for Epsom and St Helier patients

Young patients being cared for at Epsom and St Helier hospitals over the Easter weekend didn’t miss out on the fun entirely – thanks to generous donations from local businesses, a nursery and a football club.

Ward staff showing Easter gifts received from Tooting and Mitcham Football Club Hundreds of Easter eggs were dropped off for the patients in Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children (which is based at St Helier Hospital) by groups from Sutton Day Nursery, Tooting and Mitcham FC, Virgin Media and Asda in Stonecot Hill. Patients over in Casey Ward and Ebbisham at Epsom Hospital were also in for a treat, as they received bumper donations of Easter eggs from the local David Lloyd health club, Tate recruitment agency and Premium Credit.

Paediatric Matron, Nikki Sancroft, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to every person who donated an Easter egg, and to the local organisations who held an egg collection for us. All of our patients were touched by the donations, and I know that receiving the eggs brightened up their day.

ASDA staff presenting a young patient with an Easter egg “Being a patient in a hospital is never enjoyable, but for our younger patients, it can be particularly boring and frustrating – especially when they know that their friends are enjoying their half term, and are probably out having lots of fun at an Easter egg hunt!”

Jo Dodge, Play Specialist on the children’s ward at Epsom Hospital, said: “Our local communities are incredibly generous the year round – from donations of toys at Christmas to this delivery of Easter eggs. On behalf of our patients and their parents, I would like to say thank you to everyone who was involved.”
