Meet some of the staff at St George’s, Epsom and St Helier hospitals who are working on Christmas Day

Many people will – deservedly – be spending Christmas Day with family and friends, opening presents, and enjoying a special dinner.

But while they are doing so, nearly 3,000 staff at St George’s, Epsom and St Helier hospitals will be working hard to care for patients in need.

Doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, midwives, cleaners, porters, catering staff, and drivers are just some of those who will be on shift on Christmas Day.

Among them is one of Epsom and St Helier’s Porters, Spencer Glasford, who is working from 6am to 2pm.

He said: “I will do my very best for all of the patients, and then will go home to have Christmas with my family.”

Lindsey Izard, a Matron from St George’s General Intensive Care Unit, will also be working. She said: “It’s been a really busy winter so far, and that doesn’t stop at Christmas.

“However, we work with an amazing team on GICU, giving the best care to our patients whilst also looking after each other.”

Catering teams across the Group’s hospitals will also be clocking in over the bank holiday to serve festive treats for staff – including a traditional dinner on Christmas Day.
