Leading from the front: St Helier ward manager receives award of excellence
A senior nurse at St Helier Hospital has been honoured with the Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence in recognition of her exceptional leadership and compassion.
As manager on Mary Moore, Michelle Phillpot oversaw the day-to-day running of an incredibly busy ward that cares for patients with a range of different illnesses and complex needs. Michelle, who has worked at St Helier for six years, was nominated by the Head of Nursing for Medicine who praised her for her building up a loyal team, demonstrating true leadership, and for the outstanding support she provides to patients and their loved ones.
Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles said: “I am delighted to present Michelle with this award, which is much deserved. At Epsom and St Helier we strive to provide great care to every patient, every day, and it is clear to me that Michelle has shown an amazing example of putting the patient first. Managing a busy ward presents many challenges and not only has Michelle embraced these, she regularly goes above and beyond for our patients and their families.
Michelle has since moved into a new role within the trust, taking up the position of Advanced Nurse Practitioner within the Older Persons Assessment and Liaison Service (OPALS) at St Helier. Daniel added: “As well as congratulating Michelle on her award, I’d also like to congratulate her on her new job! Though I am sure the team on Mary Moore are sad to see her go, I am confident that the excellent example Michelle set will continue to stand them in good stead going forward.”
The Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence is presented each month to a member of staff nominated by patients, visitors and/or their colleagues.
