Kieron Ackerson receiving his award of excellence from Chief Executive Daniel, alongside his colleagues from the Palliative Care Team

Cool, calm and collected: Hospital administrator receives award of excellence

Kieron Ackerson, an administrator in the Palliative Care Team at Epsom and St Helier hospitals, has been presented with the Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence in recognition of his dedication and exemplary team work.

Kieron, who has worked at the trust for a year, was nominated by no less than five consultants for his excellent ‘can-do’ attitude, with his colleagues highlighting his contribution during the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in November as a particular success.

Kieron’s role means that he has to look after not just palliative care patients but those who are undergoing treatment for cancer as well. He has to liaise with consultants, nurses, GPs and other hospitals to make sure each patient is referred to the service they need in the community and at our hospitals.

Chief Executive, Daniel Elkeles, said: “Every role in the trust is integral to delivering high quality patient care, but when it comes to caring for and supporting patients who are in the last months or days of their lives, we have to get every aspect of a hospital visit absolutely right. That’s why the work done by Kieron and the Palliative Care Team is so important.

“What is incredible about Kieron is that he has achieved a lot in a short space of time – he is a key member of a vital team and is clearly dedicated to putting our patients first. To be nominated by so many of his colleagues is the highest praise possible – he is clearly an invaluable member of the Palliative Care Team.

“Kieron’s work ethic and effectiveness mean this award is well-deserved recognition for all the effort he has put in over the last year, particularly as we prepared for our CQC inspection. Remaining composed in a high pressured environment is challenging, but he has a proven track record of delivering his work on time and to the highest standard.

“My congratulations to Kieron, and to the Palliative Care Team for everything they have achieved together.”

The Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence is presented each month to a member of staff who has nominated by patients, visitors and/or their colleagues.
