£4,000 donation brightens the day of young patients at St Helier’s Eye Unit
A brand new circus-themed mural and play space within the children’s waiting area of the Eye Unit at St Helier is helping to keep young patients entertained and happy in the run up to their appointment.
The new look area, which was funded by a generous donation of £4,000 from the League of Friends for Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children, contains a floor to ceiling scene of a child-friendly circus, complete with monkeys on trapezes and a marching band.
In addition, the donation enabled the Orthoptics team (health professionals who diagnose and treat conditions of eye movement) to buy brand new toys for the children’s waiting area to help keep their patients content.
Head Orthoptist Eleanor Burley said: “We are so grateful to the League of Friends for their generous donation – the new mural, which was hand painted by a local artist – truly brightens up our waiting room. We are incredibly proud of the service we can offer in the Eye Unit, and now we have a children’s waiting area to match!”
The new mural and play area were officially unveiled recently in front of a crowd of proud staff from the Eye Unit, our Estates and Facilities team, the Chair of the League of Friends for Queen Mary’s and the artist who painted the mural.
