The Kidney Fund
Together, The Kidney Fund, the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research, and the medical and nursing staff of the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit have the combined aims of:
- to improve the understanding of renal pathology
- to improve the treatment of renal disease
- to improve the care of renal patients
- to train and stimulate scientific, nursing, and medical staff.
Founded in 1989, The Kidney Fund formally known as The South West Thames Kidney Fund raised the funds to build and equip the laboratories of the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research (SWTIRR) which opened in 1998.
Present fundraising activities allow, among other things, the continuation of research and purchase of new and updated laboratory equipment and the funding of the South West Thames Kidney Fund Clinical Research Fellows. They are currently funding their sixth clinical research fellow.
The 20th anniversary of SWTIRR was celebrated at a reception at the House of Lords in 2018.
